Today I was fortunate enough to attend the Southern Ink Exposure tattoo convention at the CTICC. Despite getting there a bit too early it was a pretty cool event to attend. I was a bit hesitant about whipping out my camera at first, but after a while I managed to get into the swing of things just walking around and shooting people.
This was my first real attempt at 'journalistic' style photography, trying to capture the event and the people attending. Shooting the actual tattooing is really difficult since the artists' hands are more often than not in the way.
The event was well attended and I ran into a couple of old acquaintances, new friends and people who I used to serve at my video store job. Quite bizarre.
It also got me quite excited for my own tattoo (courtesy of a voucher I won in December last year) which I hope to get in the next 2 months. By the end of March I also plan to upgrade to the world of Digital SLR. My salary should be able to pay for a brand spanking new camera, after which there wll be a lot more photography to lok forward to. More than just bands, that's for sure!
